Pop art akımının öncülerinden ABD’li ressam, Graffiti sanatçısı ve sosyal aktivist Keith Haring’in Amsterdam’da Stedelijk Museum binasına çizdiği mural, 30 yıl aranın ardından tekrar izleyiciye açıldı.

Alüminyum levhaların ardında 30 yıl

Yaklaşık 12 metre yüksekliğindeki mural, Keith Haring’in kamusal alana armağan ettiği en büyük boyutlu çalışması. Haring bu muralda, o muhteşem çizgisiyle yarı köpek hibrit bir hayvan ve onun sırtına binmiş tipik bir Haring figürü tasvir etmiş. Keith Haring bu komposizyonu Stedelijk Museum’un deposuna 1986 yılında, müzede yapacağı ilk solo sergisini kutlamak amacıyla çizmiş. Ancak Haring’in şehre armağana ettiği yapıtı birkaç yıl sonra binanın iklim kontrol programı kapsamında alüminyum levhalarla kapatılmış.

Graffiti sanatçısı Mick La Rock ve sanat galerisi Vroom&Varossieu ve Stedelijk Museum’un birlikte yürüttüğü bir kampanya sayesinde eser restore edilmek ve korunmak amacıyla halka açık hale getirilmiş. Böylece eser yeni nesillerin sokak sanatçılarıyla ve sanatseverlerle buluşmaya 30 yıl önce kaldığı yerden devam ediyor.

A mural by #KeithHaring featuring a mythical dog-headed creature being ridden by one of his signature figures, was revealed in #Amsterdam last week, some 30 years after the US artist completed the commission – which was his gift to the Dutch city. The huge #mural was painted in 1986 while he was in town for an exhibition. 28 years after artist's death, Amsterdam just became a city with the largest #KeithHaring public mural in Europe! After some 30 years of being covered with isolation panels, the mural he painted back in 86 finally resurfaced last week thanks to a determined group of people that included @micklarock01, @stedelijkmuseum, @keithharingfoundation & @vroomandvarossieau.

After more than 30 years the huge mural (12 x 15 meter) Keith Haring painted on the wall of an old warehouse at the Amsterdam Foodcenter is visible again. The warehouse used to be the Stedelijk Museum depot. Keith Haring painted the mural when he was in Amsterdam for his exhibition at the Stedelijk in 1986. He painted it in one day. The sea creature has been hidden behind grey corrugated plates for decades. This Monday it was revealed. It is the biggest well-preserved mural in public space Haring has made in Europe. The coming weeks the condition of the work will be checked further. Elke dag een feestje, dit uitzicht: Een reusachtige zeemeermin met een hondenkop en een mannetje op haar rug. In dikke witte lijnen schilderde graffitikunstenaar Keith Haring het beest op de hoge bakstenen zijmuur van het depot van het Stedelijk Museum. Het was in het voorjaar van 1986, ergens achter op het besloten terrein van het Amsterdamse voedseldistributiecentrum. Om klimatologische redenen verdween de creatie achter een grijs scherm. Het Stedelijk koos daarna voor een andere opslagplaats.
