Müzelerin Instagram'da Buluşma Noktası: #MuseumInstaSwap

Londra'daki on müze, dört gün boyunca koleksiyonlarındaki parçaları Instagram'da #MuseumInstaSwap etiketi üzerinden buluşturdu.

Her müzenin etiket için seçtikleri nesnelerle anlatım yönteminde kendilerine has davrandıkları görülebiliyor.

In the photo archives at @imperialwarmuseums we discovered that the British Museum was used as part of the 'Prisoners of War Information Bureau' during the First World War. The bureau, based at 49 Wellington Street in London, compiled a register of all foreign enemies, combatant and civilian, who were interned in any part of the British Empire during the war. The property of these prisoners of war was stored at the British Museum, where they were catalogued and, in the event of the POW’s death, returned to their friends and relatives. This photo shows the (mainly female) staff undertaking this colossal task in one of the Museum’s store rooms. It is such a moving, untold story, that shows both the human cost of the conflict and the administrative machinery of the war effort. A quick break from #MuseumInstaSwap for #FossilFriday: a fossil bat from our own collections, in advance of #InternationalBatNight, 29-30 August. This Palaeochiropteryx tupaiodon is one of the earliest known species of bat, existing around 48 million years ago in the Middle Eocene period. Fossils from this genus have only been found in the famous Messel pit, an oil shale bed in Germany. Despite their age, the fossils are often so well preserved they show the outline of the animals' hair and wing membranes. We're hosting our own #InternationalBatNight celebrations this weekend - join us for #BatFestival Sat 29 and Sun 30 August. #bat #fossil #mammal #festival #event #NaturalHistory #Museum #NHM

After recently organising an exhibition on 3D printing, and with an extensive collection of prosthetics in our collection, we couldn't resist a photo of this incredible 3D printed prosthetic arm in the #DesignsOfTheYear exhibition. Designed by Not Impossible, this arm was produced by Project Daniel, the world's first 3D printing prosthetic lab. The lab is producing one arm a week in a hospital in South Sudan. Together with nine other #museums in #London, we’re celebrating each other's collections on @Instagram all this week. Follow #MuseumInstaSwap this week to see more stories and connections as we show you the @designmuseum through our eyes.
